SEO Fallacy #1: Broad Match Bull
I don’t know how many times I have heard people say “look, I am raking number one for this keyword that has 15 bajillion competing pages in Google!”
Shananigans! There I called it!
This is one of the most overused and worthless metrics you can possibly use when determined keyword competition. It truly means absolutely squat! Unless of course you are selling a course about it
.
Let me show you exactly what I mean; watch the video below.
Now please, if anyone else wants to wow you with this broad match bull smack again please send them here for rehab.

Yeah, I hear ya. I never knew about the other ways to check competition on Google. Thanks for the information!
Way to call BS Fred – I love that I am not the only smart mo-fo out there that saw that and thought – Useless f-ing keyword… big deal!
I used to impress my SEO clients like that – pick an easy, irrelevant but GREAT sounding KW and get them ranked quick for it so they would keep paying me long enough to get them real results.
Keep up the good work!! Luv ya man…

Fred…I am a big fan now. WOW, I learned so much in the short video you put up then hours of reading. Thanks!
I like the point of this blog. Do we really want huge yet broad terms? Would “paint” help anyone really? Do like 10 billion people have to come to your site before you got a sale in your NICHE? actually, I am to blame, I do this. I need to quit. I need to look at only the terms that I can get and be happy about that. I don’t need 30,000 a day coming to the site, bogging it down, looking for something that is not there.Thank for the reminder! Great Post!
I was fooled by a seo guy when he said hey I have you ranked number one for
“sell house fast sacramento” I thought wow
until I used the keyword tool and saw there not any searches for that keyword
